Yeah....the bottom line is, that year, the Flyers started 32-1. They REALLY should have won the Cup in four games. Not to mention, the Islanders didn't lose a series for four years after that, until the Final in 1984, so they must have deserved it somehow.

Philly needed a lot more than better defense and goaltending. They were absolutely not even close to winning in the 2nd round.

Congrats to the Devils, I never saw this happening...b/w NY, Pitts , Philly and Boston, who'd a thought.....I had either LA or St Louis pegged from the west, but the east result is amazing....the last 2 years have shown that you can go deep with a 40 yr old goalie....now lets see if Brodeur can teach Quick a few things...it will be a tough low scoring final...the best goalie wins

Well considering the Flyers scored 41 goals in 11 playoff games, yes, I would say better defense and goaltending would have done it.

We realize the series wasn't close. It's called injuries. They happen. Even if completley healthy, it still would have been a close series. Doesn't mean the Flyers win, but it's much more entertaining and way less one sided.

Yet they scored 11 goals in 5 games against NJ. NJ had injuries too. Kovalchuk missed game 2 and was injured all series. Josefson was out and Tallinder is still out. Injuries are an excuse. The better team came out of the series.

Congrats to the devils they were the better team all series and it (frank)ing kills me to say that.

I hope i feel better by the time the finals start so I can watch good hockey. But as for right now I'm to depressed to do anything but think of what might have been.

Turn around the OT result in Game 3, and I think the rest of the series might have gone differently. For one thing, Game 4 might have been much different once Philly got off to that 2-0 lead in the game. Play a (much, much) better third period with a 1-0 lead in Game 2 after getting massively outplayed in the second period but holding the lead and the Devils might have been the ones getting frustrated.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. The Devils were the better team in that series and certainly deserved to win it. The point here is that every series takes on its own complexion and the tide often turns for good as the result of one particular game that was up for grabs. To me, that was Game 3.

You can say the better team came out in the series, you don't know that and neither do I.

1 or 2 players being hurt is one thing. Our entire line-up was banged up. Name a impact player on this team, their having off-season surgery. Not to mention Pronger was never in the equation.

So no, it's not an excuse

and do you know how banged up the devils were in the series? nope other than kovy

every team is going through injuries in the playoffs so its a weak excuse especially after many flyers fans were all talking about their depth and all

but if that makes you feel better then i guess use it

Well they certainly aren't playing banged up, so their fooling me. You could see it in the Flyers play they weren't healthy. Kimmo Timonen looked like he was playing at maybe 30%. And no, it doesn't make me feel better. I couldn't care less. As I said, even with a healthy line-up, the Devils still very well could have won. I think it's certainly a closer series, but we'll never know that. Deboer out-coached Lava. That's the point everyones missing. It has little to do with injuries.

Does Lava not get out-coached with healthier personel? Who knows. But good for you. Your team made it to the Finals. I wish you the best of luck, cause your going to need every bit of it.

So nice to see that their pack bodies into the crease/crash test dummy defense fail them when it mattered most
